Will the Catholic Church & the U.S. Courts Embrace Advanced Cell Technologies “Embryo-Safe” Technique Using Embryonic Stem Cells?

Advanced Cell Technology with laboratory facilities in Marlborough Massachusetts has pioneered a solution to the ethical, moral & legal debate raging in regards to protection of a human embryo. ACT has developed the “single-blastomere” technique. Patent Number 7,893,315 a non-destructive alternative for deriving human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines.

This achievement in Regenerative medicine is a ground breaking feat for both Catholic and U.S. law.
• The 1995 encyclical The Gospel of Life, of which Pope John Paul II wrote: “Human embryos obtained in vitro are human beings and are subjects with rights; their dignity and right to life must be respected from the first moment of their existence. It is immoral to produce human embryos destined to be exploited as disposable ‘biological material'” (1,5 )
• The Dickey Amendment (also known as the Dickey-Wicker Amendment) is the name of an appropriation bill rider attached to a bill passed by United States Congress in 1995, and signed by former President Bill Clinton, which prohibits the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from using appropriated funds for the creation of human embryos for research purposes or for research in which human embryos are destroyed.

The single-blastomere technology uses a one-cell biopsy approach similar to pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), which is widely used in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process and does not interfere with the embryo’s developmental potential. The stem cells generated using this approach are healthy, completely normal, and differentiate into all the cell types of the human The safety record for one-cell biopsy as part of PGD now has a 15-year track record, and is carried out routinely as part of IVF processes around the world. ACT’s technique of protecting the human embryo from harm can be expounded to the smallest blood transfusion in the world. As does a human being give millions of blood cells in a pint of blood so does ACT’s “single blastomere” process take but “one cell” from a 2 day old embryo. As the blood removed from a human donor “regenerate” the removed pint of blood so does the human embryo “regenerate” the one cell. Both of these procedures leave the human body & two day old embryo healthy. Both procedures are similar in that they both provide life saving material to those whom need them most to due to disease and other aliments of a medical nature.

Advanced Cell Technology not too long ago was the predominant leader in the field of regenerative medicine. It fell from that distinction in part due to executive management hubris and ultimately the credit crisis in mid-2008. ACT was able to resurrect itself from near bankruptcy in June 2008 and now has the distinction of holding two out of the three FDA approved (hESC) trials. ACT is led by a competent executive management team and employs several of the most predominant regenerative researcher(s) in the world.

New Website Dedicated To Stem Cell Investors

Investor Stem Cell (http://www.investorstemcell.com) is dedicated to bringing investors and stakeholders together in thoughtful discussion to educate and publicize the incredible medical advancements taking place in the regenerative medicine sector. Scientists are using stem cells both (hESC) and (iPSC) in hopes of easing the suffering of hundreds of millions of people world wide.

Our society is on the verge of a quantum leap moment in time thanks to regenerative medicine.

Regenerative medicine and Stem Cell research:

Utter those words at your next dinner party or casual gathering of friends and family. You will receive a concoction of half-truth’s and out right fallacy responses. Stem Cell research conjures images of futuristic Star–Trek like preservation chambers, human looking ears protruding oddly from the backs of mice, or worse yet an image of a late term fetus. Nothing could be farther from the truth when entering the reality of Regenerative medicine.

Never before has this area of research been more exciting and promising than right now. There is a medical revolution brewing, and like any revolution, there are those who want to suppress this uprising for continued personal and ideological gains. If we were to take all the major advances in the past 500 years of human medical history and multiply its effect by 10 fold it still would not compare to the paradigm shift in health care delivery that the world may witness in this decade using stem cells. Imagine that an $800,000 heart transplant is no longer needed and that instead the same money spent on one patient can now be stretched out to treat 20 patients who are needing a heart transplant. Is this what Regenerative medicine has in the offing? Only time will tell. Our healthcare system could very well be on the verge of a quantum leap moment thanks to regenerative medicine.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized 3 trials using human embryonic stem cells (hESC) in late 2010. Validation of hESC research efforts and the culmination of billions spent on research are coming to fruition. FDA validation for the treatments of spinal cord injury and age related macular degeneration is expected in 2011. It may be the shot heard around the world event sometime in late Q-4 2011 for the Regenerative medicine sector.

Failure to Investigate Cosmetic Surgeon Can Cost You Your Life

A recent death illustrates the importance of investigating your cosmetic surgeon, says Dr. Mark Scheinberg from the Center for Cosmetic Laser Gynecology. Lidvian Zelaya, 35, underwent a procedure for abdominal liposuction and buttocks injections at the Strax Rejuvenation Clinic in south Florida.

She was rushed to the hospital, but died only a few hours after the start of the procedure. Investigations of public records by ABC News reveal that Dr. Roger L. Gordon, Zelaya’s plastic surgeon at Strax, has had 20 lawsuits filed against him since 2004. He was placed on probation by the Maryland Board of Physicians for undisclosed reasons and he had his staff privileges terminated by the Florida Medical Center. The Sun Sentinal revealed that Gordon was disciplined by the state in connection with two deaths in 2004.

“If you’re choosing a plastic surgeon, you want to do your homework,” says Scheinberg. “You’re entrusting them with your body – and your life. You need a doctor you can have confidence in.”

Scheinberg has been board certified in obstetrics and gynecology since 1981 and has performed over 10,000 surgical procedures. Scheinberg has received 100s of hours of training with Professor Adam Ostrzenski, M.D. Ph.D., a pioneer in safe, effectivevaginal reconstruction and cosmetic vaginal surgery.

Zalaya’s cause of death is under investigation, but she was declared healthy enough for surgery by doctors at the Strax Clinic. “I think it’s an inherent conflict of interest if you are getting screened by the surgeon who wants to do the procedure,” said Spencer Aronfeld, a malpractice attorney retained by Zalaya’s husband, Osvaldo Vargas.

Vargas has been publicizing the case as a way of warning others to investigate their cosmetic surgeons. In particular, he is urging patients to get a second pre-operative examination by an independent doctor. He said that Zelaya chose the Strax Clinic because she got a good deal on the procedure.

“You don’t want to rush into this kind of decision or select the doctor who offers you the lowest cost,” notes Scheinberg. “You want someone who has a long record of success with the procedure you are getting. Complaints and disciplinary actions against doctors are part of the public record. Patients can and should look this information up.”

Florida Gynecologist Rebuts Misconceptions About Cosmetic Procedures

Cosmetic gynecology is a burgeoning field with a growing number of practitioners and patients all over the U.S. However, some doctors expressed concern about the field in a recent issue of OB.Gyn News. Many worried that such procedures aren’t medically indicated, while others were concerned about negatively affecting a woman’s self-image by suggesting that her private parts might be unattractive.

However, Dr. Mark Scheinberg, a South Florida cosmetic gynecologist from the Center for Cosmetic Laser Gynecology, knows these criticisms are unfounded. “I have seen hundreds of patients in my practice, “says Dr. Scheinberg. “Many of them have functional concerns, such as pain, difficulty with urine retention, or diminished sexual satisfaction. Aging, childbirth, and other causes can result in some distressing changes in the vulva area. After surgery, they are very happy to have these functions return to normal.”

Other critics have voiced concern that gynecologists’ straying into purely cosmetic treatments is a inappropriate. However, as Dr. Scheinberg points out, “These procedures are no different than breast enhancement or tummy tucks which are performed for cosmetic reasons. Enhancing your appearance is a valid choice for women. It can improve their self-image and quality of life.”

Ultimately, Dr. Scheinberg notes, it’s an issue of giving women choices. “I believe that women should have cosmetic gynecology options,” he says. “It’s not up to me to tell a woman whether she should or shouldn’t be happy with the appearance of the vulvar area. It’s the patient’s choice.”

Florida Surgeon Describes the Three Most Dangerous Trends in Cosmetic Gynecology

“The vagina is a very complex organ, with complex nerves and muscles,” observes Dr. Mark Scheinberg, a Florida cosmetic gynecologist. “Cosmetic gynecology is a fast growing profession, so, patients need to protect themselves by doing their research about which procedure they need and which practitioner they select.”

There are three dangerous trends in cosmetic gynecology today:

• One Size Fits All

– There are surgeons who perform a florida labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation only one way. But, removing too much skin could result in an unnatural appearance, which many patients dislike.
– Every patient’s body is different and each patient desires different results.

• High Volume/Low Cost

– Many surgeons advertise a wide variety of procedures, but this can mean the doctor doesn’t take the time to produce good results.
– A low cost may mean that the doctor is skipping some important steps.
– Be careful when it comes to your private areas.

• One-stop shop

– Some plastic surgeons will offer vaginal rejuvenation and labiaplasty alongside face lifts, breast enhancement, Botox, and other procedures.
– But, these generalists often don’t have much training in such specialized procedures.

When choosing a cosmetic gynecologist, look for the following:

• Experience: How many surgical, gynecological, and cosmetic gynecological procedures has the doctor performed? How long have they been practicing and what is their reputation?

• Advanced training: Look for specific vaginal rejuvenation training – especially advanced training with leaders in the field.

• Multiple methods: Look for a specialist who will design a procedure specifically for you, using a variety of methods and techniques.

• Photos: Check the Web site’s picture gallery and evaluate the quality of the doctor’s work.

•Testimonials: Find out what the doctor’s patients and colleagues are saying.

Texting Teen Moms Proves To Be A Convenient Source For Support Bloomington-Based Teen Parenting Group Sees Benefits Of Texting New Teen Moms

Nearly half (47%) of US teens say they can text with their eyes closed. That’s how vital texting has become in their lives.

Texting Teen Moms Proves To Be A Convenient Source For Support Bloomington-Based Teen Parenting Group Sees Benefits Of Texting New Teen Moms

This trend sparked the new text4baby campaign, a free health education program from the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition that sends pregnancy tips directly to expectant mothers’ cell phones. The new service will send weekly text messages, timed to the mother’s due date or their baby’s birth date.

The messages, written by government and nonprofit health experts, deal with nutrition, immunization and birth defect prevention, among other topics. To sign up, mothers-to-be can just text “BABY” to 511411.

While the national text4baby campaign is new, Bloomington Hospital has already seen the benefits of texting to communicate with new moms. Bloomington Hospital’s Gina Forrest began integrating texting into her Teen Parenting Group in 2008. Forrest sends tips and reminders directly to her teen mom’s cell phones through text messages.

“I communicate with the mothers through texting because that is the easiest and fastest way to do so. Texting has helped me build a relationship with them. They know that they can text me and I will answer,” says Forrest

For Natalie Wineinger, one of the teen moms in Forrest’s group, having texting as a communication option has been really beneficial.

“As a teen mom, I don’t really have time to pick up the phone. Texting is much more convenient for me,” says Wineinger.

Monroe Smart Start Birth to Five Coalition, a local group dedicated to coordinating existing resources to help children in their earliest years, also sees benefits in using texting to communicate with expectant and new moms. Lois Hutter-Pishgahi, director of Monroe Smart Start, is happy to see this new communication method being used nationally and on a local level because of its effectiveness in sharing information about pregnancy and early parenting with young parents.“We believe it makes sense to utilize existing services rather reinventing them. We realized that this is a very effective way of sharing information about pregnancy and early parenting,” says Hutter-Pishgahi.

Because four out of every five teens have a mobile device, Forrest and Hutter-Pishgahi know texting is an effective means of reaching teens like the ones in the Teen Parenting Group.

Forrest texts the mothers to send them reminders about upcoming appointments or meetings. This keeps them updated and less likely to miss appointments. Members of the Teen Parenting Group agree that texting is a convenient way for them to receive information.

“If I don’t know the date for my next appointment, I just text Gina and she can look it up for me. It’s as simple as that,” says Wineinger.

Text messaging represents an enormous yet unused channel for delivering vital health information to those who need it most. Over five billions text messages are sent daily, with texting use higher among women of childbearing age.

South Florida OB/GYN launches The Center for Cosmetic Laser Gynecology

Dr. Mark Scheinberg, M.D., is announcing the recent launch of The Center for Cosmetic Laser Gynecology.

The Center is devoted to empowering women and providing them with knowledge, choice, and alternatives through cosmetic gynecology. “As an OB/GYN, I’ve encountered many patients over the years that complained about the appearance or changes in the sensation and the function of their vagina and surrounding areas,” said Dr. Scheinberg.

Dr. Scheinberg has performed over 6,000 deliveries and over 10,000 gynecological surgical procedures. He has trained under and received certification in cosmetic vaginal surgery from the famed Dr. Matlock of “Dr. 90210,” and recognition has been given to him by the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Institute of America (LVRIA). He received advanced training in Cosmetic Vaginal Reconstruction and Transformation by the internationally renowned Professor Adam Ostrzenski, M.D., PH.D.

For those patients with vaginal relaxation and urinary incontinence, Dr. Scheinberg can tighten the vaginal muscles and enhance the strength and control of the vagina throughLaser Vaginal Rejuvenation (LVR) and cosmetic vaginal reconstruction. These can reverse the effects of aging and childbirth and return normal.

Many women are unhappy with the look for their genitalia. Designer Laser Vaginoplasty(DLV) can repair, enhance, and beautify the genitalia. The most common DLV procedures are the Labioplasty/Labiaplasty (minora and majora), Hymenoplasty, Hoodoplasty, reduction of prepuce (excess skin over and lateral of the clitoris).

“I found that traditional gynecology did not give patients the aesthetics and consistent results they were looking for. Patients come into my office with a picture of Playboy and say they want to look like that. We can do that!” said Dr. Scheinberg.

In addition, The Center for Cosmetic Laser Gynecology is now offering Vaser Liposuctionand Brazilian Butt Lifts.
